Showtime has released a new trailer for its upcoming series “Billions,” starring Paul Giamatti and Damian Lewis, a modern rendition of the timeless battle of ambition with political power in one corner of the ring and wealth in the other. “Homeland’s” Damian Lewis is the crafty billionaire and hedge fund superstar, Bobby “Axe” Axelrod. Paul Giamatti is the politically connected US Attorney Chuck Rhoades. The trailer alone proves the role suits Giamatti, with enough rage-filled fits to keep the fans pleased. The two engage in a cat and mouse game throughout the 12 episode series, as the roles of predator and prey constantly revolve. Lewis reveals the states are high in the trailer, “It’s like ‘Highlander,’ there can only be one.”
Set in New York City against the backdrop of the city’s Machiavellian financial machinations, the new series looks like it’ll be as big and epic as the extreme long shots of the mansions and city skyline. “Billions” will premiere on Sunday January 17, 2016 at 10pm. Neil Burger (“The Illusionist,” “Divergent”) directed the pilot. “Billions” is written and executive produced by Brian Koppelman and David Levien (“Ocean’s Thirteen,” “Rounders”), and Andrew Ross Sorkin (“Too Big To Fail”).
