If you grew up in the ’80s and spent your time watching HBO, prepare to feel an overwhelming sensation of nostalgia. The directing duo of Mark and Jay Duplass took a break from their HBO series, “Togetherness,” to create this musical rendition of the ’80s HBO Features introduction sequence. Like the resurgence of vinyl, the directors make the classic HBO vignette come back to life and sound better than ever with the addition of their guitars.
The brothers continue to make their mark on the “mumblecore” movement, transforming their distinguishable low-budget and loosely personal dramas into a TV series. “Togetherness” follows the lives of two 30-something couples battling the mundane dissatisfaction of their careers and marriages. Set in the suburbs of Los Angeles and dealing with sex slumps, the show defies its stereotypical elements with wit and indie-film intuition.
The Duplass brothers’ remix of the HBO Features introduction is similar to their sitcom, which evokes nostalgia in its return to everyday realism. Check out the video above, get excited for the second season of “Togetherness” and look forward to their new animated HBO show, “Animals.”
