It started simply enough. Despite it being his final show, Stewart couldn’t resist covering the 10-person GOP debate so many comedians — including himself — have been waiting to eviscerate. He did so in his traditional manner, throwing it to the correspondents Jordan Klepper, Jessica Williams and Hasan Minhaj. The trio held their own while reporting “from Cleveland,” but then it began: the parade of Correspondents Past, all paying tribute to the man of the hour in their own special ways.
As touching as it was to see Steve Carell, Craig Kilborn, John Oliver, Mo Rocca, Lewis Black and more return to the show that birthed them, Stewart saved the best for last. His former colleague turned conservative sparring partner Stephen Colbert first mocked his ex-boss for forgetting him and then delivered a poetic thank you that brought Stewart to tears.
It was a touching site to see, and one we’ll all undoubtedly remember for ages — but that doesn’t mean it’s too soon to revisit it. Or, if somehow you missed last night’s epic farewell, stop reading this nonsense and get to watching. The clip above kicks it off, and the video below brings on Colbert. Enjoy.
