Roland Emmerich’s gay rights drama “Stonewall” has a trailer, and it’s definitely powerful. We’re still cautious in our optimism given the unproven track record of the director when it comes to films not involving blowing up White Houses, but our fingers are definitely crossed.
The plot is a fictionalized account of the 1969 Stonewall Riots, the violent clash that helped kick off the gay rights movement in New York City. It centers on Danny Winters (Jeremy Irvine), a young gay man who flees to New York, leaving behind his sister. He finds his way to the Stonewall Inn, where he gets involved with activists that would ultimately lead the riots.
“Stonewall” premieres at the Toronto Film Festival next month.
