It doesn’t look like the Film Academy is going to give Bill Murray an Oscar any time soon, so hopefully the TV Academy will do their part this year. Let’s face it. Murray has certainly had better performances than his abbreviated stint in “Olive Kitteridge,” but limited screen time is really the only aspect of his turn that can be faulted — and that’s not his fault! Murray is as close to a human national treasure as we have in the acting community, so let’s not take his multi-faceted talents for granted any longer.
That’s the argument bound to be bouncing around the back of Emmys voters’ minds when it’s time to cast their ballot, and it’s one as sound as for any other nominee this year. All have put forth impressive, unparalleled turns — from relative newcomer Richard Cabral to long-term players like Murray and O’Hare — so this category may come down to favorites. And who’s more of a favorite than Murray?
Richard Cabral, “American Crime”
Damian Lewis, “Wolf Hall”
Bill Murray, “Olive Kitteridge”
Dennis O’Hare, “American Horror Story: Freak Show”
Michael Kenneth Williams, “Bessie”
Finn Wittrock, “American Horror Story: Freak Show”
