Marking director Robin Pront’s debut film, “The Ardennes,” is a thriller about a drug and crime fueled journey through the Belgian countryside. Adapted from a play written by co-writer and star Jereon Perceval and produced by Bart Van Langendonck (whose work on “Bullhead” received an Oscar nomination), Pront’s film is calling up comparisons to “Fargo,” “Trainspotting” and the early films of Quentin Tarantino.
Pront’s sardonic, pitch black thriller follows the story of two criminal brothers, Dave (Perceval) and Kenneth (Kevin Janssens), who are reunited after Kenneth’s release from prison. When Kenneth arrives home eager to return to his life of crime, he finds his brother and his former girlfriend living clean. Reminded by Dave’s role in the home-invasion that sent him to jail, Kenneth draws Dave back to the scenic Ardennes of their youth in order to restore the criminal status quo, but what awaits both of them is more sinister than either of them could have imagined.
“The Ardennes” will have its world premiere at TIFF on September 14 as part of the Discovery slate. Watch the exclusive clip above.
