Sarah Gavron’s new drama “Suffragette” is an Oscar-primed historical drama about the early feminist movement and the female foot soldiers devoted to the cause. The film is an adaptation of the true story of suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst and the women who risked losing their jobs, families and lives to fight with her. “Suffragette” recently world premiered at Telluride.
In the new clip above, Maud (Carey Mulligan) is forced to face law enforcement after charges of violence are brought against her. Mulligan, whose icy stare and quick wit serve her well in the stand off, vows to win for her cause at whatever cost.
A timely tale of feminist activism, and featuring an insanely star-stuffed cast including Mulligan, Helena Bonham Carter, Brendan Gleeson, Meryl Streep and Ben Whishaw, “Suffragette” promises to be an authentic portrait of one of the most important social protests in history.
The film opens in U.S. theaters October 23. Watch the clip above.
