“True Detective” may not have gone as smoothly as Colin Farrell was hoping for, but luckily the actor already has a critically acclaimed rebound waiting in the wings: Yorgos Lanthimos’ romantic satire “The Lobster.” The film premiered at Cannes and earned praise for its ensemble cast and its absurdist humor on the nature of relationships, and it’s easily one of the more anticipated titles set to play at festivals in Toronto, New York and London this awards season.
Set in somewhat of a dystopian future where society highly values relationships, the movie stars Colin Farrell as an architect who checks into a hotel after his wife leaves him. The architect has just 45 days to find a new partner or else he’ll be transformed into an animal of his choosing. John C. Reilly, Rachel Weisz, Ben Whishaw, Olivia Colman and Lea Seydoux co-star.
Alchemy picked up the film in May but has not yet set a release date. Watch the peculiar trailer above, courtesy of The Guardian.
