Plunging headfirst into the Oscar season with a New York Film Festival premiere is Steven Spielberg’s “Bridge of Spies.”
At the heart of “Bridge of Spies” lies the untenable task Tom Hanks’ Brooklyn lawyer and negotiator, James Donovan, is forced to endure as he struggles to defend a Soviet spy Rudolf Abel (played by wily Mark “Thomas Cromwell” Rylance). Not only is Donovan concerned for the man who he believes to be falsely accused of treason, but for his family’s well-being as they unwittingly become embroiled in a high stakes political free-for-all.
Steven Spielberg’s 28th feature film, co-written by the Coen Brothers, is the hot ticket at NYFF this year. The film also stars Alan Alda, Amy Ryan and Eve Hewson. “Bridge of Spies” arrives in theaters October 16, 2015.
