In this first clip from ‘Truth’, Dan Rather (played by Robert Redford) leaves his own party early in favor of an important interview. The film is directed by James Vanderbilt in his directorial debut (Vanderbilt is best known as the writer of “Zodiac”) and tells the story of the controversial reporting on George W. Bush’s alleged draft dodging in Vietnam that, when proven false, effectively ended Rather’s career.
The film stars Cate Blanchett as Mary Mapes, a Peabody Award winning producer who helped Rather break the story. Topher Grace, Elisabeth Moss and Dennis Quaid also appear in the film as members of Mapes’ news team.
This clip shows Rather and Mapes attending a benefit where Rather is being honored. When Mapes learns they have secured an interview with an important military contact, the two rush off to conduct the interview. The clip shows their hastiness to move forward in building a case against the President as they rush to find out the truth behind a scandal that could have ended his chances at a second term.
The film will be released in theaters on October 16. Watch the clip above courtesy of Entertainment Weekly
