Malachi Smith’s screenplay, “Gateway 6,” has finally been greenlit thanks to Altitude Films. Having topped the newest Brit List of the best unproduced screenplays, Altitude Films is eager to get the sci-fi thriller out for international sales. Producers include Ben Pullen of Sentinel Entertainment and Matthew James Wilkinson of Stigma Films.
The film will be directed by Tanel Toom, who is best known for his acclaimed short “The Confession,” which was nominated for an Academy Award in 2011. Toom’s debut feature film will star Rhys Ifans and Ed Skrein as the main characters who will endure challenges akin to those in “Moon,” “Das Boot” and “Alien.”
According to the official synopsis, “Gateway 6” will be “set in the future on a war-ravaged Earth,” where “four soldiers man the eponymous last bastion awaiting a relief crew or the enemy, whichever comes first. As the empty weeks turn to months, paranoia descends that tests relationships to breaking point, especially with the arrival of a deserted boat.”
“We are hugely excited to be unleashing Tanel Toom’s boldly inventive vision of the future upon the movie going public,” said Pullins. “He and Malachi Smyth have created a unique and scarily authentic glimpse into the future which allows for an intensely claustrophobic sci-fi hrill ride set against a vast sweeping canvas.”
