The glamorous lives of Edina (Jennifer Saunders) and Patsy (Joanna Lumley), high-fashion heroines of the BBC’s long-running TV series, are coming to the big screen for the first time with “Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie,” which begins principal photography October 19. The film, written by Saunders and directed by Mandie Fletcher, is shooting on location in the U.K. and the south of France. Fox Searchlight and BBC Films will release the movie in 2016.
More than 20 years after we first met the champagne-swilling, chain-smoking, fad-chasing ne’er-do-wells, as well as Edina’s daughter, Saffron (Julia Sawalha), “Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie” finds Edina and Patsy still living it up in London. When they’re blamed for an incident at a trendy launch party, they flee the resulting media blitz and devise a plan to make their French Riviera escape permanent. Also returning are original cast members Jane Horrocks, as Bubble, and June Whitfield, as Mother.
