In 'Expecto Patron,' a Brooklyn DJ Finds Out She Might Be a Wizard

Here’s your daily dose of an indie film, web series, TV pilot, what-have-you in progress — at the end of the week, you’ll have the chance to vote for your favorite.

In the meantime: Is this a project you’d want to see? Tell us in the comments.

Expecto Patron

Logline: A Brooklyn based aspiring performer Rachel Reese, AKA “DJ Expecto Patron,” continues to blame her misfortune on an undiagnosed brain tumor – instead of realizing the truth: She’s actually a wizard.

Elevator Pitch:
Living paycheck to paycheck in Northwick Brooklyn, Rachel Reese spends most of her time trying to find an audience for her unusual music stylings, performed under her new moniker “DJ Expecto Patron.” When weird events start to occur near and around Rachel, her hypochondria causes her to think it must be a brain tumor. As she becomes increasingly anxious about dying at any moment, she is secretly followed by a stranger who may be the one to help her realize the truth: SHE’S A MOTHERFU$%ING WIZARD.

Production Team:
Writer/Director: Rachel Puchkoff (“Wildcats”: Raindance Discovery Award 2015)
Producer: Emily Iason (“Superior”: Sundance 2015, Berlinale 2015)
Casting Director: Stephanie Holbrook (“About Ray” (2015), “Margaret” (2011))

About the Film:
Our main goal is to transcend the typical web series and surpass the expectations of “Funny girl can’t pay her rent in NYC.” There will be cinematic moments straight out of a feature film, paired with the relatability of sweating your ass off in a subway station.

At the core, this is about a young woman continuously blinded from the fact that she quite literally possesses the power to have everything she’s ever wanted – a theme I plan on continuing to explore.

We hope this project serves as another step towards furthering women-centric (as well as LGBT) storytelling, online and beyond.

Current Status: Raising Funds/Pre-Production. Feel free to contact the filmmakers if you would like to get involved with “Expecto Patron.”
