On last week’s episode of Screen Talk, Eric Kohn and Anne Thompson discussed the mystery surrounding the reception for “Beasts of No Nation,” which was released on Netflix at the same time that it hit theaters. With no transparency surrounding its numbers, our hosts had no idea how to measure the movie’s popularity—or its viability in Oscar season. The story grew more complicated this week, when Netflix’s Ted Sarandos revealed that “Beasts” was viewed more than three million times. So how does that change the equation?

That’s the starting point for this week’s episode, in which Kohn and Thompson also discuss the box office struggles of “Steve Jobs,” and the newly announced December release date for Spike Lee’s “Chi-Raq.” The fall season keeps getting more crowded!
