READ MORE: Watch: Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Go to Extremes in ‘By the Sea’ Featurette
Emotions are running high and exhaustive in the new trailer for Angelina Jolie’s “By the Sea.” Jolie’s third directorial effort finds her also handling writing duties and starring opposite Brad Pitt, Mélanie Laurent, Niels Arestrup and Melvil Poupaud. The drama marks the first time Jolie and Pitt have acted with each other since “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.”
The official synopsis reads: “‘By the Sea’ follows an American writer named Roland (Pitt) and his wife, Vanessa (Jolie Pitt), who arrive in a tranquil and picturesque seaside resort in 1970s France, their marriage in apparent crisis. As they spend time with fellow travelers, including young newlyweds Lea (Laurent) and François (Poupaud), and village locals Michel (Arestrup) and Patrice (Bohringer), the couple begins to come to terms with unresolved issues in their own lives.”
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, who premiered the trailer earlier today, Jolie said, “I wanted to suggest and guide and give hints to the audience but not bore them or reveal all before the film itself. I like trailers that don’t explain the whole film; that tell you exactly what to expect.”
“By the Sea” world premieres at AFI FEST 2015 next week and hits theaters November 16. Watch the trailer above.
