“Downton Abbey” goes straight for your tear ducts in a new trailer chemically designed to make you mourn the show’s imminent conclusion. Set to some appropriately winsome music, the video celebrates the show’s entire run, flashing back to seminal scenes (RIP Matthew, always) and forward to plenty of self-referential dialogue, like Mary asking “Can this really be the end of it?”
And so it is, as creator Julian Fellowes is choosing to end “Downton Abbey” after six seasons of love, death, and looming modernity. Over the course of its run, the drama’s accolades have nearly matched its body count, garnering 11 Primetime Emmys, three Golden Globes, and dozens of other nominations and awards.
“Downton Abbey” premieres its final season January 3 at 9pm on PBS. Watch the trailer above.
