The horror genre has more than a handful of tropes that get trotted out every so often, and scary dolls rank right up there. Those terrifying figures are the centerpiece of the upcoming scare flick “The Boy,” which has just dropped its first spine-chilling trailer.
Lauren Cohan — aka Maggie Green from “The Walking Dead” — leads the picture, playing a young woman who takes a nanny job in a rural English village. The twist? The child in question is actually a life-sized doll, a replacement for a real child that her employers lost years ago. Uh yeah, that’s kinda creepy. Here’s the official synopsis:
Greta (Cohan) is a young American woman who takes a job as a nanny in a remote English village, only to discover that the family’s 8-year-old is a life-sized doll that the parents care for just like a real boy, as a way to cope with the death of their actual son 20 years prior. After violating a list of strict rules, a series of disturbing and inexplicable events bring Greta’s worst nightmare to life, leading her to believe that the doll is actually alive.
William Brent Bell (“The Devil Inside,” “Wer”) directs and this will open on January 22, 2016. Watch below.
