Watch: 'Last Week Tonight with John Oliver' Has a Surprise For 'Fargo' Fans

While “Fargo” fans may think of North Dakota as the folksy namesake of their favorite dark comedy, and anyone watching the new ABC soap opera “Blood and Oil” will think the North Dakota oil business is a glamorous free-for-all of power, sex and money, the fact of the matter is that the oil boom is bad for North Dakota.

On last night’s “Last Week Tonight,” host John Oliver served up the cold hard truth about the oil rush currently sweeping through North Dakota. The influx of oil companies setting up shop in the state has led to ruined farmland, dangerous work conditions and general environmental destruction. While some of our favorite TV shows gloss over this, North Dakotans are struggling under the weight of big oil companies eating up their land.
