READ MORE: 10 Ways ‘The Daily Show With Trevor Noah’ Aims to Move Beyond Jon Stewart
Earlier this week, the new “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” trailer dropped during Monday Night Football and set the internet ablaze, but the new “Daily Show” host Trevor Noah did his best to extinguish some of the most hatred-fueled flames.
While recording what Noah referred to as “Miley twerking numbers,” the new trailer simultaneously spawned a social media boycott movement united against the diversity of its casting. Despite growing up in South Africa where “the Dark Side meant something totally different,” Noah had plenty to say about the fanboy outrage that is becoming more and more of a pattern these days.
After joking about Jar Jar Binks and calling out a tweet from “The Force Awakens” director J.J. Abrams, Noah allowed Jordan Klepper, his Senior Fantasy Culture Correspondent to weigh in. “We’re wasting too much time on this debate when we should be talking about the important stuff [like] obscure fictional minutiae that nerds can argue endlessly about online,” Klepper said.
