There’s even more “Transparent” news worth getting excited about now that the Season 2 teaser trailer—with Emmy winner Jeffrey Tambor’s Maura Pfefferman oh-so-perfectly shutting down a wedding photo shoot when the photographer calls her “sir”—has dropped. Amazon’s breakout original series, from Jill Soloway (an Emmy winner in her own right), will feature guest stars Anjelica Huston, Cherry Jones, and Carrie Brownstein, among others, when the new season lands on Amazon Prime on Dec. 11.
One of last year’s best TV series, the remarkable, lived-in portrait of trans woman Maura Pfefferman, her ex-wife (Judith Light), and her three adult children (Amy Landecker, Jay Duplass, and Gaby Hoffman) wowed critics, audiences, and awards voters in its freshman season. Now, the series returns with the wedding of Maura’s eldest, Sarah (Landecker) and old flame Tammy (Melora Hardin)—and with the same scruffy, low-key vibe that marked its debut. The gorgeous, almost Altman-esque sequence depicted in the teaser trailer has all the warmth and perceptiveness that have become associated with Soloway’s series, from the chaotic staging and overlapping dialogue to the potent issue of pronoun (mis-) usage.
Count “Transparent” as one of the most highly anticipated releases of the year—and just in time to make critics’ top ten lists yet again. Fingers crossed.
