Cahiers du Cinéma tends to release its annual Top 10 in print before putting it up on the web, but the list is now online courtesy of Cinema Scope’s Jordan Cronk. (The films chosen, Cahiers explained on their Twitter account, have French release dates between December 17, 2014 and December 15 of this year.) Putting Nanni Moretti’s “Mia Madre” in first place is certainly an eye-opener, but the real shocks come further down with Larry Clark’s “The Smell of Us,” Alanté Kavaïté’s “The Summer of Sangaile,” and Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s “Journey to the Shore,” which got a grand total of five combined votes among the 840 cast in the Sight & Sound poll. You do you, Cahiers.
