Where’s Dererk Cianfrance’s “The Light Between The Oceans,” his new drama starring Alicia Vikander, Michael Fassbender and Rachel Weisz? Well, it missed this year’s fall film festival, and one would presume that Cianfrance and co. have held the movie — about a lighthouse keeper and his wife living off the coast of Western Australia who raise a baby they rescue from an adrift rowboat — for Cannes in May, and perhaps an awards season run next year.
A small first look of the film has surfaced (via The Film Stage, see below) that’ll have to tide you over until next year. The movie also features Caren Pistorius (who starred with Fassbender in “Slow West”) as the adult version of the girl they raise and as someone who we put on our 2015 On The Rise actress list, we’re hoping it gives her another showcase to shine.
But speaking of Vikander, following today’s reveal that a ‘Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ series is coming back at Sony with “The Girl In The Spider’s Web” — don’t get too excited, David Fincher nor none of the leads are coming back—The Wrap is reporting that Vikander is the “early favorite” to replace Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander. But take note, Scott Rudin and former Sony chief Amy Pascal, both of whom are producing again, aren’t “expected to start the high-profile casting process until after [Steven] Knight delivers a script.” Translation: this is a very, very early report and you’ll just have to see how this one pans out. Don’t place any bets just yet.
