Longtime supporting actress and IMDB lifeblood Judy Greer is stepping behind the camera for “A Happening of Monumental Proportions.”
Greer’s transition to directing comes in the midst of a long screen career as that woman who was definitely in something you saw, if we just give you a second, agh, you will totally remember what you know her from. More seriously, Greer’s new step follows the recent cancellation of her FX comedy show “Married” and a summer of bit parts in blockbuster fare like “Jurassic World” and “Ant-Man,” all of which sparked intense conversation around Greer’s career.
Dissected as both a symbol and a symptom of Hollywood’s dearth of content for post-ingenue women, Greer will make content of her own with “A Happening of Monumental Proportions.” While Greer is not slated to appear in the film, fellow supporting heavy hitter Allison Janney will star.
Common is also attached to the comedic drama, which follows one day of sex, lies and dead bodies in an L.A. school.
The script comes from Gary Lundy and was a Nicholl Fellowship semi-finalist and a Sundance Writer’s Lab finalist. Chris Weitz, Paul Weitz and Andrew Miano are set to produce the film, which is expected to shoot next year.
