Watch: HBO's 'Vinyl' Trailer Pushes Bobby Cannavale to the Limits of Acting

Some roles are demanding. Some roles demand extremes. And some roles are Richie Finestra in the upcoming HBO rock n’ roll drama, “Vinyl.”

In the second full trailer (shown above), Bobby Cannavale’s loud, brash, drug- and booze-fueled leading man is throwing himself into the wild persona of a desperate record executive looking for a musical rush to match the others he’s so clearly experiencing. It’s a big, showy part and Cannavale — a character actor who’s shown his range in films and shows like “Spy,” “Blue Jasmine,” “Nurse Jackie,” “Will & Grace” and, yes, “Boardwalk Empire” — seems to be seizing his opportunity to star with both hands. 

We’ll know if he’s able to walk the tightrope between over-acting and realistically conveying a manic maniac when “Vinyl” premieres February 14 (Valentine’s Day). Until then, enjoy the sneak preview above.
