After soaring at the select box office this weekend, Todd Haynes’ magnificent love story “Carol” is hoping to hold strong this holiday weekend. In celebration, The Weinstein Company is offering up new looks at the acclaimed festival favorite.
“Carol” is based off the novel “The Price of Salt” by Patricia Highsmith and chronicles a love affair between two women in New York City in the 1950s. Rooney Mara plays a department store worker and Cate Blanchett plays a married older woman.
While the former clip shows Carol and her friend (played by Sarah Paulson) talking about Carol’s christmas road trip with the young Therese (Mara), the second provides a swoon-worthy look at a lunch the lovers share during said trip. Notice how just the touch of their hands sends Blanchett into deep thought.
“Carol” is now playing in select theaters.
