Boston Critics Groups Go for Kristen Stewart, Split Between 'Spotlight' and 'Mad Max'

It’s a busy weekend for the awards season with the British Independent Film Awards now underway, the LA Film Critics currently casting their vote and both Boston critics circles revealing their picks.

The Boston Online Film Critics awarded “Mad Max: Fury Road” best picture over hometown favorite “Spotlight,” which was the Boston Society of Film Critics’ top pick. Overall Boston championed both films. BSFC runner-up “Fury Road” also picked up editing from that group, on top of best director from the Online Film Critics.

Both groups went for best supporting actress Kristen Stewart, also honored by the New York Film Critics last week, which could boost deflating Oscar chances for her talked-about “Clouds of Sils Maria” performance. (Stewart is the LAFCA runner-up.)
