After taking audiences through the landmarks and characters of Rome with the Oscar winning “The Great Beauty,” director Paolo Sorrentino next headed to another beautiful location, the Swiss Alps, for “Youth.” The picture is no doubt gorgeous to look at, but for the director, his biggest joy comes after shooting is complete.
“The first time I start to edit a film, I’m great,” Sorrentino told us in a recent interview. “When I actually start to work is in the editing room. During production, I never go back and see what I filmed at the end of the day, so when I go to the cutting room, I really see for the first time what Luca [Bigazzi, his DP] and I captured.” He adds that editing is “the happiest moment” for him in the filmmaker process.
And with his latest, starring Michael Caine, Harvey Keitel, Rachel Weisz, Paul Dano, and Jane Fonda, he’s crafted the story of time and age, with the tale following a retired composer in the Swiss Alps, who mingles with his best friend and Hollywood director Mick, his daughter and assistant Lena, and a famous film star, at an upscale resort. Today we have some exclusive images from the film highlighting the cast and lovely setting of the film. Check them out below.
