Apple is throwing their hat into the end of the year list game with the announcement of their annual “The Best of 2015” editorial picks and charts. While it’s hard to argue against the four titles the staff has selected as Apple’s Best Movie Picks (“Inside Out,” “Dope,” “Amy” and “Mad Max: Fury Road”), the top 10 iTunes indies chart is a much more surprising array of indies from this year and last.

Representing the most purchased and downloaded independent titles available on iTunes over the last 12 months, the list has at least one masterpiece from this year and a handful of Oscar-winning dramas from last year. While a Bill Murray crowdpleaser makes sense to see on the list, the inclusion of a mostly forgotten about James Franco indie and a surprising #1 choice proves that you can’t solely judge the success of an indie on its theatrical run. Check out the list below.

iTunes’ Top Independent Movies of 2015:
2. “Birdman
3. “Ex Machina
5. “Whiplash
6. “Wild
7. “St. Vincent
8. “True Story
9. “Woman In Gold
