Martial arts films tend to exalt honor and duty, but the trailer for Netflix’s followup to “ ” begins with its protagonist, Yu Shu-Lien (Michelle Yeoh, reprising her role) refusing to glorify these precepts, calling them “excuses for bloodshed.”
Shu-Lien left that lifestyle behind years ago, but after the events of one night, she’s pulled back into the fold. She must prevent a great warrior’s sword from getting into the wrong hands — those of an evil warlord. If Yu fails, “That will be the end of all of us.”
Like its predecessor, “” features gorgeous cinematography and thrilling special effects. The spot is only a minute-and-a-half long, but it is action-packed.
The original “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2001. The film grossed over $213 million worldwide on a $17 million budget.
“Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny” sweeps into select IMAX theaters and will begin streaming on Netflix February 26, 2016.
