If there were any doubts from Paramount about the upcoming “Zoolander 2,” there probably shouldn’t have been. Nostalgia sequels are Hollywood’s next favorite thing, and “Anchorman 2” and “Dumb And Dumber To” have proven in the last couple of years that even if your movie wasn’t a giant hit at first (as “Zoolander” wasn’t), being a small-screen favorite will lead to a big boost next time around.
Digital Spy reports that the launch of the first full trailer for the movie last week was the biggest ever for a comedy, racking up 52 million watches. And as if to celebrate, Paramount have released a new international trailer for the movie. It’s a little heavier on the spy plot, and on Penélope Cruz, who the new promo reveals is a former swimsuit model who turned to espionage because her cleavage was too prominent for her to be a catwalk star.
Staying put is the presence of Benedict Cumberbatch as androgynous model All, which has proved controversial in some circles, with the joke being labelled as transphobic. Perhaps the joke makes more sense in context? We’ll find out when the movie, which stars Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Cruz, Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig and many more, hits theaters on February 12th.
