Paul Verhoeven hasn’t made a feature film since 2006’s “Black Book.” In 2012, he released “Tricked” (read our review), but that was a 50-minute effort that was part of a larger piece that involve mobile apps, an online element, and a TV series in his native Netherlands. But now he’s finally coming back with this next movie, “Elle,” and the first images and poster have arrived.

Isabelle Huppert takes the lead role in thriller, based on the novel “Oh…” by Philllippe Dijan, which details the psychological game of cat-and-mouse between a businesswoman and the stalker who raped her. So, yes, it’s Verhoeven returning to button pushing genre territory with a great actress in the lead, and we’ll be excited to see what he does with the material.
No word yet on any release dates, but “Basic Instinct” did screen at Cannes, so maybe that’s something to keep in mind….
