George Miller Says “I Won’t Make More Mad Max Movies”

George Miller Says "I Won’t Make More Mad Max Movies"

Well, this is rather unexpected. Ever since the release of “Mad Max: Fury Road,” which could find itself receiving a handful of Oscar nominations later this week, George Miller has said he’s got stories ready for a follow-up, and was having conversations with the studio about the future. However, he has also said he wants to make a small movie next, citing the low-budget “Tangerineas an inspiration. But recently, he’s suggested he could happily leave the “Mad Max” franchise behind, saying he’d be cool with another filmmaker taking over. And indeed, the 70-year-old director is now saying he’ll never get behind the camera for another “Mad Max” movie.

“I won’t make more ‘Mad Max’ movies,” he told Page Six. “I’ve shot in Australia in a field of wild flowers and flat red earth when it rained heavily forever. We had to wait 18 months and every return to the US was 27 hours. Those ‘Mad Maxes’ take forever. I won’t do those anymore.”

Well, that’s rather unequivocal, and I don’t really know what else to say. Miller has directed four “Mad Max” movies already, and who can blame him for wanting to go out on top with ‘Fury Road.’ But as we know, these days franchises never die, so it’s only a matter of time before Warner Bros. finds some way to reboot the series, or just continue with Tom Hardy and/or Charlize Theron (perhaps with Miller’s blessing, they can use the director’s numerous story ideas). Thoughts? Leave ’em below.
