Gugu Mbatha-Raw is in talks to join Jessica Chastain and Michael Stuhlbarg in the gun-control drama, “Miss Sloane” to be directed by John Madden.
The film centers on Chastain playing the titular Elizabeth Sloane, known as a “political fixer” who is tasked with getting gun-control legislation past Washington’s powerful gun lobby. As her campaign for tighter background checks gains traction in Congress, she makes some significant enemies and finds her career and family at risk.
Mbatha-Raw, if she does join the cast, will play a gun-control lobbyist on Chastain’s side, with a secret that may be a problem for their efforts.
Madden is directing from a script penned by newcomer Jonathan Perera.
The project is backed by EuropaCorp and FilmNation.
We last saw Mbatha-Raw alongside Will Smith in “Concussion,” which is currently in theaters. She’ll next be seen in “Free State of Jones,” the Civil War drama starring Matthew McConaughey. She was most recently cast in Netflix’s original series “Black Mirror.”
The news of her casting in “Miss Sloane” was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
