Paddy Breathnach’s acclaimed drama “Viva,” which had been scheduled for release on February 4, but distributor Magnolia Pictures has pushed it back in the wake of the film’s failure to secure an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. The drama, which will screen at Sundance later this month in the Spotlight section, was shortlisted by the Academy, but it ultimately failed to receive one of the five category nominations.
“Viva” follows a young hairstylist for drag performers in Havana, but he really dreams of joining them on stage. His father, a former boxer, has only just appeared back his life, and they soon clash over opposing expectations and struggle to understand each other.
