Martin Scorsese and Aaron Sorkin Both Moving Forward With New Projects

Two of the busiest names in the business, Aaron Sorkin and Martin Scorsese, are keeping the ball moving on their careers by lining up enticing new projects.

Scorsese, who was present at the TCAs in Hollywood yesterday to tease his new HBO show, “Vinyl,” is developing a biopic drama centered on the classical pianist Byron Janis with Paramount Pictures. Variety reports the director will only be a producer on the film, though the subject matter fits in line with the many music-oriented films he has directed. The studio bought a pitch from Peter Glanz, who is writing the script, based on Janis’ book “Chopin and Beyond: My Extraordinary Life in Music and the Paranormal.”

Paramount released Scorsese’s last three films: “The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Hugo” and “Shutter Island.” They’re currently collaborating on his passion project, “Silence,” though no release date has been set.

Sorkin, meanwhile, is looking to step into the director’s chair for the very first time to helm an adaptation of Molly Bloom‘s memoir, “Molly’s Game.” The Hollywood Reporter first teased the news about the Oscar-winning screenwriter, who set up the project with Sony as a screenwriter but has since decided to direct the picture himself. The memoir tracks Bloom’s evolution from a top-tier skier into an underground poker. Sorkin is currently in the Oscar race for his acclaimed “Steve Jobs” screenplay, and THR sources say he’s on the fast track to cast the lead actress for his directorial debut.

More information on both projects is bound to break in the coming weeks.
