Motion Picture Sound Editors to Honor 'Evil Dead' Filmmaker Sam Raimi

Sam Raimi, the writer/director whose credits include the “Evil Dead” franchise (including current Starz original series “Ash vs. Evil Dead”), “The Hudsucker Proxy,” three “Spider-Man” movies, and the sterling modern noir “A Simple Plan,” will receive the Motion Picture Sound Editors’ Filmmaker Award at this year’s Golden Reel Awards ceremony, to be held February 27 in Los Angeles.

Past recipients of the MPSE Filmmaker Award include Darren Aronofsky, George Lucas, Ang Lee, Michael Bay, Steven Spielberg, Clint Eastwood, Brian Grazer, and Gale Anne Hurd. The nominees for this year’s Golden Reel Awards will be announced January 26; the five finalists for the Oscar in sound editing are “Mad Max: Fury Road,” “The Martian,” “The Revenant,” “Sicario,” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
