Disney is shaking off the end of 2015 and looking at the next 12 months ahead. And while Marvel and “Star Wars” are certainly the big crown jewels of their slate, they’ve got other movies in the pipeline, and they’ve released a handful of new images to tease what’s coming.
Up top is a new image from “Alice Through The Looking Glass,” the sequel to 2010’s “Alice In Wonderland.” Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska are back reprising their roles, but the question is whether or not it can duplicate the $1 billion success of the Tim Burton-directed predecessor. Part of that figure was certainly fueled by being the first 3D movie to arrive in the wake of “Avatar,” so we’ll see what audiences have to say when it opens on May 27th.
Below, you’ll find snaps from two original dramas coming from the studio. First there’s Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander in Derek Cianfrance‘s “The Light Between Oceans.” The story centers on a lighthouse keeper and his wife and the moral consequences they must face when they find a two-month-old girl and a dead body in a rowboat and decide to raise the baby as their own. No release date has been set, but it’s coming.
Lastly, there’s “Queen Of Katwe” starring Lupita Nyong’o and David Oyelowo, and directed by Mira Nair, it will tell the true story of Phiona Mutesi, a young Ugandan girl who, despite having dropped out of school, went on to be a chess champion. No release date yet for this one either, but keep an eye out.
