After a pretty crummy 2015 at the box office, with “Jupiter Ascending” and “Pan” among their notorious flops, Warner Bros. are hoping that “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice” and “Suicide Squad” can restore their fortunes. Indeed, the movies need to be a success because they will be anchoring the studio’s upcoming slate of DC Comics movies, and it’s responsibility not lost on ‘Batman v Superman’ director Zack Snyder, who is one of the driving creative forces behind that interconnected world.
And part of breaking new ground means bringing characters to life that haven’t had a chance to shine in contemporary times, such as Wonder Woman.
“She’s a powerful female superhero, which is a thing we haven’t had for a while,” Snyder said. “She’s a piece of IP that basically exists in pop culture in a way where every kid’s got a Wonder Woman T-shirt and they don’t really know why. I want to give the why back to that.”
Logos? IP? Let’s hope the actual movies go beyond being mere brand extension. ‘Dawn Of Justice’ arrives on March 25th and “Suicide Squad” lands on August 5th.
