Alejandro González Iñárritu’s period tale of survival and revenge, “The Revenant,” led Thursday morning’s Oscar nominations with 12, including Best Picture, Director, Actor Leonardo DiCaprio, and Supporting Actor Tom Hardy.
Hardy also starred in the film that received the second-most nominations, “Mad Max: Fury Road,” which nabbed 10.
Other leading contenders for Best Picture include “Spotlight,” with six nominations, and “The Big Short,” with five. Among those left off the list of finalists for the top prize were critical darling “Carol” (six), mega-blockbuster “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” (five), and crowd-pleasers “Creed” and “Straight Outta Compton,” which received one nomination apiece—the former for Supporting Actor Sylvester Stallone, and the latter for Original Screenplay.
