The road to complete the sci-fi comedy “Lazer Team,” the first feature film from Rooster Teeth, has been paved by a tremendous amount of fan support. After raising over $2 million with its IndieGoGo campaign, its supporters are now helping to bring the movie to theaters around the world.
Rooster Teeth have recently partnered with Tugg, Inc., an international cinema on-demand distribution platform that specializes in having users choose the film, date, time and location for their own screenings, in the hopes of letting fans catch “Lazer Team” on the big screen before its online premiere. It has now been announced that “Lazer Team” has pre-sold over 100,000 tickets, grossing over a million dollars worldwide and shattering all of Tugg’s previous records.
“In making ‘Lazer Team’ it was always important to us that our fans all around the world would be able to see it as one big community and we are thankful our partnership with Tugg has given them the opportunity to view the film together on the big screen,” said director Matt Hullum in a statement.
Tugg CEO Nicolas Gonda added that, “This is the new blueprint for how the small screen can crossover to the big screen. We salute Matt, Fullscreen and the entire Rooster Teeth team for modeling how creators can embrace Event Cinema and empower their community. We look forward to replicating this success with other creators and video platforms.”
“Laser Team” opened on January 27, with screenings happening across the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. The film will also be unleashed on YouTube Red in early February. Check out the trailer above.
