Cassidy had previously held the Vice President, Productions and Acquisitions position at Open Road Films, which she joined in 2014. Since her time there, Cassidy has been responsible for Open Road’s first feature “Sleepless Night,” the Jake Gyllenhaal-staring “Nightcrawler,” as well as last year’s Sundance smash, “Dope,” among others.
Before joining Open Road Films, the rising executive oversaw development, production, and acquisitions at Summit Entertainment during her five-year stint there. Some of her achievements at Summit include the production of “Perks of Being a Wallflower,” “Source Code,” and the acquisition of Academy Award winner “The Hurt Locker.”
“Sophie has been an invaluable member of our team and has done an exceptional job managing the development and production of our projects while cultivating filmmaker relationships,” stated Ortenberg in an official statement. “We are pleased to recognize her with this promotion and to have her in this new leadership role at the company.”
“I am very proud of our upcoming slate and excited for the new challenges ahead,” added Cassidy. “Tom and the entire Open Road team are the best at what they do and I am honored to step into this new role.”
