Amazon Studios and Roadside Attractions are reteaming on the release of Whit Stillman’s Jane Austen-romance “Love and Friendship” starring his “Last Days of Disco” stars Kate Beckinsale and Choe Sevigne. Amazon acquired the rights long before Sundance’s Saturday debut, a sign of a seller’s market. Roadside handled the theatrical release of Spike Lee’s “Chi-Raq.”
They’ll follow the same playbook on this adaptation of an unpublished Jane Austen novel. Release the film in theaters, then stream online a month later. Both Amazon and Netflix have picked up titles ahead of Sundance: Netflix nabbed Iranian horror film “Under the Shadow” and comedy “Tallulah” starring Ellen Page.
