In a pre-Sundance acquisition, Sundance Selects has acquired North American distribution rights to “Weiner,” which takes a look inside the political catastrophe of Anthony Weiner’s 2011 mayoral campaign. The film will have its world premiere at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival in the U.S. Documentary Competition section.

“Josh Kriegman and Elyse Steinberg have expertly crafted one of the most fascinating and insightful political documentaries of all time,” said Jonathan Sehring, President of Sundance Selects/IFC Films. “We are beyond excited for audiences to witness not only the unprecedented access they had to Anthony Weiner’s campaign but also the human tragedy it became.”

Added Kriegman and Steinberg, “We are thrilled ‘Weiner’ will be distributed by Sundance Selects and Showtime Documentary Films. They have a long history of supporting important documentaries and ensuring they reach the largest audience possible. We look forward to working with them on having our film be an important voice in the ongoing conversation about politics and media.”

“Weiner” will begin playing at Sundance on January 24. The documentary will make its worldwide television debut this fall on Showtime across all platforms.
