David O. Russell‘s “Joy” had the unique distinction among yesterday’s Oscar nominees of being one of the highest profile contenders to only get one nomination. Only star Jennifer Lawrence was honored, getting a nod for Best Actress, but elsewhere the movie struck out. Nonetheless, it’s a picture worth checking out, and given how barren the rest of January is in terms of new releases, it would probably pay to give it a shot.
