“Out here, there is no good and there no bad.” That might be true in the new trailer for “Triple 9,” out in theaters next month, but there certainly seems to be enough room for greed, corruption, betrayal and murder.
The latest from John Hillcoat, who has made quite a career documenting this gritty brand of depravity in films like “The Proposition,” “The Road” and “Lawless,” comes from a Black List script by Matt Cook that tells the story of a group of dirty cops who are blackmailed by the Russian mob to pull off an almost impossible heist. Their resolve is put to the test when they realize they must take the life of a fellow officer in order to pull it off.
Hillcoat has also assembled a terrific ensemble cast here, recruiting Casey Affleck, Woody Harrelson, Anthony Mackie, Gal Gadot, Norman Reedus, Aaron Paul, and Kate Winslet to share in the bloodshed.
