READ: Watch: Cuba Gooding Jr. Ominously Narrates as O.J. Simpson in New ‘American Crime Story’ Clip
The trial of O.J. Simpson had always been seen as being a racially charged case, particularly as it occurred in the aftermath of the Rodney King beating and subsequent riots in Los Angeles. The death of Nicole Simpson and the ensuing trial of her ex-husband, former NFL star O.J. Simpson, for her murder added more fuel to the already blazing fire.
The anthology series “The People v. O.J. Simpson,” written by the masterful screenwriting duo Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski and executive produced by Ryan Murphy, will follow Murphy’s recent pattern of making each season a stand-alone narrative, much like “True Detective” and “American Horror Story.” The series promises not to replay the events that were already captured in the televised trial, instead focusing on the activities and battles of each legal side. “As much as it is about the murders of Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman, it’s about the city of LA and it’s about race, in America,” said David Schwimmer, who plays Robert Kardashian in the series.
