READ MORE: ‘Elvis & Nixon,’ Which Is Exactly What It Sounds Like, Goes to Amazon Studios
Amazon Studios is following up the success of Spike Lee’s “Chi-Raq” with another star-studded effort this April. “Elvis & Nixon,” from director Liza Johnson, takes one of history’s most bizarre true stories and brings it to the screen with the help of two heavyweight actors: Kevin Spacey and Michael Shannon.
The official synopsis reads: “On the morning of December 21, 1970, the world’s biggest star, Elvis Presley (Michael Shannon) arrived on the White House lawn to request a meeting with the most powerful man in the world, President Richard Nixon (Kevin Spacey). ‘Elvis & Nixon’ tells the true story of this meeting between two men at the height of their powers.” Colin Hanks, Johnny Knoxville, Sky Ferreira, Tracy Letts, Evan Peters and Alex Pettyfer round out the cast.
Bleecker Street will release the film this April, though no specific date has been set. Watch the trailer above, which may be just as bizarre as the subject matter itself.
