Comedian Andre Hyland is a self-described one-man band. Nowhere is this more apparent than his debut feature “The 4th,” in which he is the writer, director and lead actor. The comedy will be premiering at Sundance this week.
“The 4th” stars Hyland as Jamie, a twenty-something in LA trying to throw together a cookout for the 4th of July while his roommate is out of town. A quick trip to buy lighter fluid soon causes his plans to go up in smoke. The quirky cast of characters he runs into are loosely based on encounters from Hyland’s real life. Hyland describes the film as “one character’s journey on a low-stakes, pathetic adventure.”
