“Alien: Covenant” is an upcoming science fiction horror film to be directed by Ridley Scott, starring Katherine Waterston, Michael Fassbender, Demián Bichir and Danny McBride, in what is said to be a sequel to “Prometheus,” and will take place roughly ten years after the end of that 2012 film.
The story will follow the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, where the crew discover what they think is an uncharted paradise, inhabited solely by the android David (Fassbender), survivor of the ill-fated Prometheus expedition. However, the planet is soon revealed to be far more dangerous than they expected.
The film is set to explore the origins of the Xenomorph species – director Ridley Scott has stated that, as the first Prometheus explored the origins of humanity, the second film will be “the next evolution, directly connected with the first one.”
The film will be followed by two more “Prometheus” films, ultimately leading up to the events of the original Alien. At least, that’s the word on the street.
Production of the film is underway, with a scheduled release date of October 6, 2017.
Smollett currently stars in Fox’s hit series “Empire,” and Ejogo will next be seen in “Born to Be Blue” with Ethan Hawke.
Deadline was first to report the news of their casting.
