“If You Know The True Canon, You Know That I Didn’t Change Superman”: Zack Snyder Talks ‘Man Of Steel’

"If You Know The True Canon, You Know That I Didn’t Change Superman": Zack Snyder Talks 'Man Of Steel'

With “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice” looming ever closer, fans aren’t letting Zack Snyder off the hook for his gritty, General Zod-killing Superman in “Man Of Steel.” At every turn, Snyder has defended his choices, and does so again, but now ups the ante by essentially saying his superhero movie was done with all due respect to the source material.

“People are always like ‘You changed Superman.’ If you’re a comic book fan, you know that I didn’t change Superman. If you know the true canon, you know that I didn’t change Superman. If you’re a fan of the old movies, yeah, I changed him a bit,” Snyder told Hall Of Justice podcast.

“My point is that we don’t take liberties [from the characters’ comic origins]…what we’ve done is create a place where they can really be the mythological characters as designed in the comic books,” he also said, adding, “…the thesis of Superman for me, that you can’t just have superheroes knock around and have there be no consequences.”

Overall, Snyder explains how his vision for the DC Comics world on the big screen informed his approach to Superman, and he adds that ‘Batman v Superman’ will address the events from “Man Of Steel.” But to toss out the words “true canon” in defense of “Man Of Steel” is a bold move, and I’m sure fans will have plenty to say.
